Cornbread ingredients… a requirement of life…

 

Warm the oven to 450°

 

3          heaping scoops of Tenda-Bake green label self-rising cornmeal or 2 1/2 cups if you don’t have access to GMOT’s scoop…

1          egg

2          golf ball sized balls of Crisco shortening

Add buttermilk and mix by hand to the proper consistency… Proper consistency = not too soupy and not to thick…

 

Spray a #8 Griswold skillet with Pam cooking spray and bake for 25 minutes…

 

…Grits…

 

Another Southern requirement… here’s a mighty convenient way to cook grits…

 

Fill a 4 cup mixing cup with 2 cups of water…

 

Add 4 heaping tbls of grits…  heaping is all that a tablespoon will hold…

 

Add 1/2 tsp. of salt…

 

Cook in the microwave oven on high for 12 minutes…

 

Add butter, stir briskly and serve…

 

 

…Rice…

Ingredients…

 

1 cup               rice

1/2 tsp            salt

4 cups             water in the 8 cup mixing cup…

 

Cook for 25 minutes on high…

 

Wash in a colander with hot water and let drain for dryer rice…

 

Add butter if desired...
